India has had a law against unequal pay since 1976. The Equal Remuneration Act, supported by Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution, clearly states that women and men doing the same work must receive equal pay. Yet, nearly fifty years later, this law remains one of the most consistently ignored pieces of legislation in the country.
